Vivianne Winters Israel

Vivianne raised her daughter on her own from the age of 13 months. She worked more than one job and operated home-office businesses, including a small publishing company—before the era of cell phones and Google. 

Her first book, Tender Moments: Diary of a First-time Mother received an IBPA Benjamin Franklin Silver Award, in the category of nonfiction literature. A passion project, containing the first year of a journal written to her daughter; kept from shortly before birth to age one; a gift of memory of her early days and Vivianne’s feelings of becoming, and being, a Mom. 

Vivianne’s subsequent books were technical business titles teaching online marketing strategies and tactics for small businesses. As years progressed, through her cancer treatments, business demands on top of her nursing career became too consuming. It was time to refer-out her clients to other providers and close the marketing and publishing businesses.

Fast-forward ten years: now Vivianne writes books for children: first, a series of compelling adventure and mystery stories across international settings, for older children (aged 8 - 12); to be followed by an adventure/mystery series for young adults (aged 13 -17). First-inspired when moved by the welcoming and kindness of so many people she encountered during her first international travels, even when traveling alone, where she did not speak the language. 

Her inspiration forged into a soul-driven calling, several months into the Covid lockdown and after receiving a layoff notice. The financial, economic and global logistic hurdles brought about through the pandemic were straining society itself. The unfolding social impact could prove even more profound. 

“What of our children? Their fears; their distresses? Can we diminish the negative effects? How can we dissuade an early loss of the natural open heart and curiosity of young children — a loss of childhood wonder?” A thought grabbed Vivianne by the heart. Storytelling! Storytelling has captured the minds and hearts of we humans for eons. Children, especially, love stories. The children’s adventure/mystery books she wanted to write stories with a kid’s eye-view of other countries, cultures, and regional peoples could contribute!

Through the experiences of diverse contemporary peer characters with real-life issues, she’d pen stories to organically support children’s ability to navigate today’s increased social/emotional challenges and encourage positive character traits through the characters’ transformative experiences. 

This could be a contribution toward prolonging childhood wonder. Vivianne decided to not seek another nursing position, or any position. She retired from being an employee and returned to writing and publishing; committed to publishing books children will want to read and share with their friends. Books of a caliber teachers, educators, and librarians would want their charges read; that parents and grandparents would want for their family.
